Niagara County Community College will announce an upcoming partnership with Keuka College. President William J. Murabito, Ph.D., and Keuka College President Amy Storey will sign articulation agreements on Friday that will facilitate seamless transfer pathways for students enrolled in the human services A.A. program at NCCC to a social work B.S. program at Keuka College, as well as the NCCC health studies A.S. program to a community health and wellness B.S. program at Keuka College.

Niagara County Chief Public Defender Nicholas B. Robinson announced the relocation of the county's public defender's office is now complete. The new office location is 170 East Ave., Lockport. The office moved from 139 Niagara St., in the county Civil Defense building.

Gov. Kathy Hochul recently announced New York's fifth "Free Fishing Day" of the year is on Saturday, Sept. 25. It coincides with National Hunting and Fishing Day, which is celebrated annually to promote outdoor activities like hunting, fishing and target shooting. New York provides anglers with six "Free Fishing Days" each year.

Niagara County Legislator Jesse Gooch on Thursday sent a letter to Gov. Kathy Hochul asking her to intervene in efforts to lower the speed limit on Shawnee Road in the Town of Wheatfield. Residents have been seeking a speed limit reduction for years, but the state Department of Transportation has refused the request.

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos announced the release of a proposed regulation that, if adopted, would allow counties to opt out of the recently established end-of-year deer hunt, slated to occur annually between Dec. 26 and Jan. 1. The "holiday hunt" is an extension of the late bow and muzzleloader deer season in New York's southern zone.

Sheriff Michael Filicetti announced the implementation of a new tool to assist the Niagara County Sheriff's Office in handling mental health calls. In partnership with Niagara County Mental Health, and through the benefit of a grant received by the New York State Office of Mental Health, the NCSO will be deploying iPads to deputies. The tech will be utilized to connect persons in crisis directly with mental health clinicians.

On Monday, the Town of Wheatfield voted to adopt a number of revisions to its solar law, largely pertaining to utility-scale solar farms and energy systems. The amendments are aimed at addressing public concerns surrounding such facilities that were raised after a 6.3-megawatt project by Borrego Solar Systems at 2469 Lockport Road was approved and completed following the initial solar law's passing in 2017. The move comes as a town-imposed six month moratorium on new solar projects expired this month.
