Niagara County Sheriff's Office K9 Reggie will receive a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from nonprofit organization Vested Interest in K9s Inc. K9 Reggie's vest is sponsored by Christine Rath of Youngstown, and will be embroidered with the sentiment "Born to Love - Trained to Serve - Loyal Always." Delivery is expected within eight to 10 weeks.

The Niagara County Legislature voted Tuesday to allocate up to $100,000 for the construction of a new Purple Heart monument on the grounds of the Niagara County Courthouse in Lockport. The vote endorsed the recommendations of an ad hoc committee that was formed earlier this year to come up with a design and a location to honor Niagara County's Purple Heart recipients.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. Friday, July 29, Niagara Falls Police and Niagara Falls Fire departments responded to an address in the 500 block of 19th Street for a report of an unresponsive male. The 59-year-old male had sustained a gunshot wound and was deceased at the scene.

On Wednesday, just before 2 a.m., the Niagara County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call regarding a hazardous material incident at the Avantor building in the Town of Wheatfield. The caller reported a spill of approximately 400 gallons of methanol contained inside the building.
