Long-time Lewiston resident Jerald I. Wolfgang, age 84, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2023, at his Lewiston home. He was a prominent face in education, economic development, political and community affairs in Niagara County over past decades.

Niagara County Community College nursing programs announced today that their students' National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) scores are well above the state and national averages. The 2022 registered nursing program NCLEX scores are 92.5%, and the licensed practical nursing program scores are 100% for the third year in a row.

The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) will host a public information meeting from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31. The session pertains to a proposed intersection improvement project scheduled to begin in spring 2024 on state Route 104 (Ridge Road), at state Route 93 (Townline Road) - commonly referred to as Warrens Corners - in the towns of Lockport and Cambria.

Niagara County Legislator Rick Abbott on Monday said the Niagara County Legislature has passed two local laws to readjust the income guidelines for county property tax exemptions for seniors (65-plus) and people with disabilities, so more people can take advantage of the program - and those who are receiving the exemption do not lose them.

Shortly after 6:30 p.m. on Saturday night, the Niagara Falls Police Department responded to the corner of South Avenue and Lockport Street for a report of a man shot. Upon arrival, an officer located a 24-year-old Niagara Falls resident suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his body.

Earlier this week, the board of directors of People Inc. named Anne McCaffrey as its new CEO. McCaffrey, currently the president and CEO of Eastern Niagara Hospital, will replace Rhonda Frederick, who is retiring in April after a 43-year career at the agency.
