Cardinal O'Hara names top seniors

Marissa Taylor has been named valedictorian of the Class of 2023 at Cardinal O’Hara High School. Wilson Hendershot was named salutatorian.

Taylor is president of the National Honor Society and is founder and president of the O’Hara pep club. In addition, she is president of the chorus council, a member of the principal’s advisory board as well as secretary of the student council.

A talented vocalist, she has been the lead in O’Hara musicals, a member of the Erie County and All State NYSSMA, and a guest member of the Buffalo Philharmonic Choir with the Chautauqua Symphony.

A varsity soccer player, Taylor is a volunteer for activities within the school including open house, teacher assistant and bingo.

In addition, among the awards Taylor has received are the Presidential Gold Academic Excellence and the O‘Hara service award for four years, RIT Innovation and Creativity award, the George Eastman Young Leaders award and the Youth of the Year award from the Erie Niagara Sunrise Exchange Club, as well as being named a Quality Student of the Tonawandas.

Taylor plans to attend the University at Buffalo in the fall.

Outside of school, Taylor is a team leader at Franco’s Pizza. She is the daughter of Rebecca McClintick and Mark Taylor.

Hendershot is president of the senior class and the Good Samaritan Club. A member of the Model UN, travel club and the science Olympiad, he has received many awards, including a scholarship award from the Rotary Club of Kenmore, Quality Students of the Tonawandas, Business First’s Community All-Star and the Erie-Niagara School Superintendent’s Association Award.

Hendershot is a member of the varsity volleyball, bowling, outdoor track and field, soccer, football and baseball teams. In addition, he is a member of the stage crew.

His volunteer experience ranges from in-school activities such as open house and school ambassador to Lions Club vision screening and junior librarian at the summer session of the North Tonawanda Public Library. He also works at Colton RV Detailer.

Hendershot plans to attend Florida Polytechnic University. He is the son of Scott and Denise Hendershot.

The baccalaureate program will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church in North Tonawanda. Graduation will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 25, in the Performing Arts Center at Cardinal O’Hara High School.
