In a collaboration with Catholic Charities, the Western New York Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association will hold a forum about Alzheimer's disease and dementia for Niagara County residents from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at the Catholic Charities office at 625 Tronolone Place in Niagara Falls.

Members of the Memorial Day committee gathered for a photo and a meeting on Wednesday. For the first time since 2019, the parade will return to Center Street in the Village of Lewiston. Following the procession, Veterans of Foreign Wars Downriver Post 7487 will hold its annual observance ceremony at the "Circle of Honor" monument in Academy Park.

Members of Niagara University's men's hockey team spent a recent morning loading and unloading a truck filled with furniture that will be used to set up new homes for refugees resettling in Western New York through Jewish Family Services. As Niagara County prepares to recruit its next round of correction officers, it is continuing to take part in a state pilot program, begun last year, which scores candidates on baseline criteria like training and experience, and eliminates the need to take a civil service exam. Niagara County is one of 40 counties participating in this effort.

Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski said Niagara County will once again honor Purple Heart veterans by adding their name to county's Book of Honor at a ceremony to be held Sunday, Aug. 6. Jastrzemski said any Purple Heart veterans (or their family members) who are not currently in the book need to come forward by May 1 to be included in this year's ceremony.
