New Village of Lewiston recycling truck on the prowl

Village of Lewiston Department of Public Works Superintendent Terry Brolinski is pleased to report this DPW crew is now collecting recyclables in a brand-new vehicle. The yellow truck made its debut Thursday.

Frontier House charges dropped without prejudice

Town of Lewiston Justice Hon. Thomas Sheeran on Wednesday dismissed the Village of Lewiston's charges against Hastings Lewiston without prejudice. What this means is that, if the municipality moves forward with purchasing the Frontier House, the alleged building code violations become the village's responsibility. If the purchase doesn't happen, charges can be refiled against Hastings Lewiston.

On June 1, 10-year-old Gavin Burns was injured in a lawnmower accident at his home in Lewiston. Mercy Flight took him to Oishei Children's Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. Doctors were able to save Gavin's leg, but, unfortunately, they were not able to save his foot, which had to be amputated just above his ankle.
WOTM golf outing

The Women Of The Moose Chapter 1940 will hold its eighth annual golf tournament at Hyde Park Golf Course on Saturday, June 30. The event has a shotgun start at noon with lunch prior to the start at 11 a.m. at the course and a steak dinner at the Moose Lodge in Lewiston after the tournament.

The Lewiston GardenFest was well attended on a bright, sunny weekend. Plants of all sorts were on display, and the information to grow them came from numerous vendors. The event also offered garden supplies, seminars, crafts and food on Center Street.

The Niagara County Board of Elections on Thursday recanvassed the ballots from the Village of Lewiston mayoral race and certified the results. Pending a legal challenge, Anne Welch is the mayor-elect, topping challenger and current Deputy Mayor Bruce Sutherland by three votes.

The man for whom Lewiston was named received his own monument on Thursday, as the Village of Lewiston officially unwrapped the Morgan Lewis bust inside the International Peace Garden. Acclaimed sculptor Susan Geissler created the artwork - her third monument in Lewiston, joining the Tuscarora Heroes (Center Street) and Freedom Crossing (Water Street).
