Null Point's 'Sound Garden' in the Artpark Percussion Garden begins July 15
Experience "Music in the Woods," a free Sunday music series presented in Artpark's lower park (Emerald Grove) along the Niagara River Gorge. The 4 p.m. shows include:
July 8 - Boleo Quartet: A delightful afternoon of classical and baroque chamber music by Haydn, Bach and Vivaldi performed by Moshe Shulman, Jonathan Golove, Miranda Shulman and Inga Yanoski.
July 15 - Buffalo Gamelan Club Performance & Workshop: Buffalo Gamelan Club (Sari Raras Irama) performs traditional Javanese music with instruments from Surakarta, Indonesia. The program will showcase traditional gamelan songs that are inspired by nature and its beauty.
July 22 - Johannes Lindstead "Guitar on Fire": A Spanish guitar program by the award-winning Canadian guitarist and instrumentalist Johannes Lindstead, who fuses virtuoso Spanish-style guitar with Afro-Cuban, Middle Eastern and Latin American percussion and instrumentation.
July 29 - Ubudis Trio: Guitarist Omar Tamez, cellist Jonathan Golove and percussionist John Bacon perform jazz compositions drawn from a repertoire that includes Monk's "Ugly Beauty," Mingus's "Weird Nightmare" and Steve Lacey's "3 Haiku," along with original compositions by the group's members.
Aug. 12 - UB Percussion Ensemble: The University at Buffalo Percussion Ensemble performs a concert featuring pieces by such American mavericks as Steve Reich, Elliott Cole and John Cage. Buffalo Percussion Collective will be comprised of Jamie Sunshine, Alexander Chimienti, Mike Tielke and Steven Lattimore.
Aug. 19 - Buffalo Tango Orkestra: Traditional Argentine tango fused with an international palette of music and arrangements.
Aug. 26 - "PLACE Part 10" by David Dunn performed by Null Point artists: Composed in 1979 by the iconic American composer, explorer, technological mystic, ecologist and writer, David Dunn, the piece features 10 musicians activating conventional instruments with materials found in Artpark's outdoor environment. The performance aims to explore the astonishingly unexpected and varied sounds that emerge from this unusual interchange of "cultured" instruments and "natural" materials.
This will be the culmination of the weekly Sound Garden program by Null Point in Artpark Percussion Garden and will celebrate the full issue in Sound American magazine dedicated solely to this recreation project by Null Point and its composer, Dunn:

Null Point's Sound Garden in the Artpark Percussion Garden
Each event in the" Music in the Woods" series (beginning July 15) will be preceded by the Null Point's "Sound Garden" from 1-3 p.m. This event is also free and open to the public.
"Sound Garden" cultivates community through collective sound-making and listening, featuring workshops, performances, installations, "soundwalks" and open rehearsals.
On Sunday afternoons in July and August, the program explores a variety of ways to make sound and music in dialogue with Artpark's rich soundscapes and landscapes, through participatory events produced by Buffalo-based experimental sound initiative Null Point. Presenting cutting-edge experimental sound in accessible formats, each program provides ways for participants of any or no musical background to make creative, hands-on sonic contributions to the performance.
