'Christmas in the Village' returns to Youngstown with Live theater, marketplace, Santa

Empty Center Street parcel might not be vacant much longer

The Village of Lewiston Planning Commission on Monday granted preliminary site plan approval for what was described as a national urgent care company to erect and operate a structure at 860 Center St. The parcel has been vacant since April 2012, when the building that now houses the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce office was transported from the site and moved across the street to Academy Park.

Niagara County receives $344,000 from NYS for shared services implementation

Niagara County Manager Richard Updegrove said the county was awarded $343,975.34 from the county's participation in the New York State County-Wide Shared Services Initiative. The CWSSI was created to generate savings by encouraging creative efforts at collaboration by local governments across the state.
Catholic Health breaks ground for new Lockport Memorial Hospital

Catholic Health broke ground Tuesday on the new Lockport Memorial Hospital, which will become an eastern campus of Mount St. Mary's Hospital. Located off South Transit Road, between Shimer and Ruhlmann roads, the new hospital will be built on a large portion of Hall's Apple Farm, an area landmark that will maintain its longstanding market.

Deposits for Food (D4F) recently made its annual holiday donations to four Niagara County food pantries - just in time for the holidays. Checks totaling $3,000 were presented to Community Missions, and Heart, Love & Soul of Niagara Falls on Wednesday by D4F founder Angelo Sarkees. Checks were previously given to Wilson Food Pantry and Care-N-Share Pantry of Ransomville.

New York Power Authority fishing piers to close for season

New York Power Authority fishing facilities, including the fishing pier at the base of NYPA's Robert Moses Niagara Hydroelectric Power Plant, will close for the season, at dusk, Tuesday, Nov. 30. The fishing pier near the Upper Mountain Fire Co. at the Lewiston Reservoir and at the water intakes along the upper Niagara River will also close for the season.

William Bond House becomes the setting for "Winterfest Evening." The first brick house built in Lockport (circa 1823), the Bond House will be decorated for the holidays in 19th Century fashion.
Super DIRTcar Series back at Ransomville for 37th Summer Nationals

The Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series will make its return to the Big R for the 37th edition of the Summer Nationals on Wednesday, Aug. 24. The 2022 edition of the Summer Nationals will be a 75-lap feature for "The Beasts of the Northeast." Thursday, Aug. 25, will be used as a rain date, if needed.
