The ninth annual “Saturday for Soldiers” event was held at The Ontario House (Stone Jug) last weekend. Organized by Colleen Mary Johnson Summerville, the event benefits local veterans and active-duty service members in need.
Many people and lots of families came out to sign Christmas Cards to be distributed to service members and veterans. Items such as toiletries, socks, candy and other items were collected to make care packages to brighten the holidays.
“We collected over 500 items and wrote out over 800 cards to be sent to active military,” Johnson Summerville said. She credited the event’s success to the strong community participation. “I was very pleased.”
