NCCC Workforce trains National Guard members to be EMTs

The New York State Bureau of Emergency Medical Services requested Niagara County Community College (NCCC) Workforce Development conduct a pilot educational program to help train part of the 500-600 new emergency medical technicians in order to help relieve the current burden on health care facilities across the state.

Gov. Kathy Hochul has announced 29 new #VaxForKids pop-up vaccination sites to increase vaccination rates among children and adolescents. The new sites support the state's goal of ensuring New York children 5 years and older get vaccinated and keep up with all recommended coronavirus vaccine doses, including the booster.
Niagara Falls: Temporary traffic change, street closure for film production

Portions of Third Street in Niagara Falls will be subject to intermittent closures Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 16-17, while production crews film in the area. The closures will affect Third Street between Niagara and Ferry streets. Niagara Falls Police will be in the area directing traffic.

Residents request Lewiston board rename roadway 'Sutherland Street'

Lewiston lost one of its strongest champions when Bruce Sutherland passed Dec. 27. Three days after the former deputy mayor's death, Tom Deal of Deal Realty suggested a portion of South Sixth be renamed "Sutherland Street." Bruce would often hold court from his house, and he and his wife, Jackie, were popular among neighbors.

NCDOH offers free rapid COVID-19 testing in Niagara Falls

The Niagara County Department of Health (NCDOH) announced free rapid coronavirus testing will be available for all Niagara County residents. Starting, Wednesday, Feb. 9, testing will be offered at the Doris W. Jones, Family Resource Center at 3001 Ninth St., Niagara Falls. Testing will be available from 9 a.m. noon Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

For Catholic Health, the value-based incentive program includes patient data from Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, Sisters of Charity Hospital, Kenmore Mercy Hospital and Mount St. Mary's Hospital.
Niagara Falls Fire Department has pair of weekend blazes

The Niagara Falls Fire Department responded to two fires over the weekend. On Friday, a call at 9:32 p.m. reporting a structure fire, at 764 16th St., resulted in firefighters finding a two-story wood structure fully engulfed in flames. Upon extinguishing the fire, crews entered the building and found it was clear. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Kenmore Mercy Hospital and Mount St. Mary's Hospital recently introduced next-generation technology for dialysis care, called Tablo Hemodialysis System. The changeover to the new dialysis program within Catholic Health is aimed at improving the patient experience, while reducing the cost and complexity historically associated with dialysis treatment.
