Stray Cats to strut into Artpark Aug. 13

As part of Artpark & Company’s 50th anniversary season, Stray Cats will perform in the Artpark Amphitheater at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, with special guests The Midnight Cowgirls.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, March 29, and cost $79 for reserved seats, $69 for front of stage (standing only), and $25 for general admission (carry-in chairs and blankets permitted). Purchase online at ticketmaster.com or over the phone by calling the box office at 716-754-4375.

The upper box office will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. It is located off the Portage Road entrance, in the information center next to the upper amphitheater entrance gate. The lower (main) Artpark box office, located off South Fourth Street, is currently closed for in-person purchases due to construction on the venue grounds.

Stray Cats, the band that put rockabilly music back on the record charts in the early

1980s, scored several big hits on both sides of the Atlantic thanks to a striking, visual, 1950s style brought “up to date” with exaggerated pompadours and colorful tattoos – as well as genuine musical chops that evoked the best players of rockabilly’s original heyday. Phantom in the Long Island town of Massapequa in 1979, the trio shared a love for rockabilly music. After banging around New York for a few months, in the summer of 1980 – and seeing a pompadoured kid on the cover of UK magazine NME – they hopped a plane to London where a rockabilly revival movement was just beginning to emerge. Their massive hits and videos include “Runaway Boys,” “ Rock This Town,” “Stray Cat Strut,” “(She’s) Sexy + 17” and “I Won’t Stand in Your Way.”
