Worship leader and songwriter Cody Carnes has kicked off the new year with a brand-new single, "Christ Be Magnified," which he debuted with a live performance at Passion 2020 last week in front of more than 65,000 students at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. “We were created to worship," Carnes shared about his new song. "We find our native cry and inmost melody when worship to Jesus is expressed out of us. The foundational prayer for my life is that Jesus would become greater in me. When I study all of Paul’s writings in the New Testament, I see his teaching point to that prayer. This song, ‘Christ Be Magnified,’ is an attempt to put that prayer to music for the church; a song that lifts a devoted sound of worship to Christ and says, ‘I’m all in. Whatever it looks like, whatever it costs. I give you my life for the rest of my life.’ Death of my flesh is the doorway into the resurrection life of Christ. I want more of that in me! It’s my prayer every time I lead this song.”
Over the past year, Carnes has regularly released powerful worship songs the church community has embraced, including "Nothing Else," "Heaven Fall" and "Run to the Father." "Nothing Else" is Carnes' most successful single to date.
“I feel such deep anticipation for this moment in history," Carnes said of performing at Passion 2020. "Ringing in the ’20s worshipping Jesus with a generation of people shook the earth. I imagine the ripple effects that come out of the divine God moments that happened at this conference will affect the world for decades to come.”
Carnes will join his wife, Kari Jobe, as they will be featured as special guests on the upcoming Hillsong Worship Tour that will hit more than 25 cities beginning in May.
Carnes is a worship leader and songwriter whose passion is to create a meeting place for God and people through music. He spends most of his time traveling and leading worship with Jobe. The couple has co-written numerous songs together, including "Closer To Your Heart," "The Garden," and "Lover Of My Soul" from her album “The Garden,” and "Let The Heavens Open" from her album “Majestic.” He also wrote "The Cross Has The Final Word," a hopeful, declarative anthem about the overcoming power of Jesus' name.
His debut album, “The Darker The Night / The Brighter The Morning,” released in September 2017 with Capitol Christian Music Group.
