National, regional advocates interact with small businesses at roundtable discussions

U.S. Small Business Administration Office of Advocacy Region II Advocate Christine Myers and National Rural Advocate Joe Knilans will join small business owners from Western New York for roundtable discussions in Niagara, Chautauqua, Erie, and Monroe counties from Tuesday, June 18, through Thursday, June 20.

The SBA Office of Advocacy is the independent voice for the small business community inside the federal government that works to ensure rules and regulations do not unfairly burden small entities employing 500 or less workers.

The forums hosted by the advocacy office are part of their ongoing efforts to support and engage with entrepreneurs and small-business owners. They allow small businesses to share and voice their opinions and concerns on federal regulations.

“The Office of Advocacy advances the concerns of small businesses directly to the regulatory agencies, Congress and the White House. The office also compiles research, which examines the role of small business in the economy and the impact of government regulation on small business,” Myers said. “Holding these local forums with small business owners is a critical component in our efforts to help lessen the heavy regulatory burden on small business.”

Small businesses and media are invited to attend these scheduled forums:

•Agribusiness Small Business Forum – Niagara County Department of Economic Development, Sanborn, from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday.

•Innovation & Technology Small Business Forum – Buffalo State Small Business Development Center, Buffalo, from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday.

•Rural Small Business Forum – JCC Small Business Development Center, Jamestown, from 3-5 p.m. Wednesday.

•Government Contracting and Manufacturers Forum – Monroe County Ebenezer Watts Conference Center, Rochester, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. on Thursday.

For locations or to RSVP, email Victoria Reynolds, SBA Buffalo District, deputy district director, at [email protected].

Created by Congress in 1976, the Office of Advocacy of the U.S. SBA is an independent voice for small business within the federal government. To learn more, visit www.sba.gov.
