Gleason's to host Niagara Cup

Gleason's Gymnastics will host the 33rd annual Niagara Cup Gymnastics Meet beginning Friday, March 7, through Sunday, March 9, at the Koessler Athletic Center at Canisius College. More than 700 gymnasts from across the U.S. and Canada will compete.

The Elite Finals will be Saturday, beginning at 7 p.m., featuring the top 10 finishers in levels 9 and 10 from Friday's competition.

In other Gleason's news:

•Gleason's levels 9 and 10 recently competed in the Arizona Sunrays Classic Rock Gymnastics Invitational held at the Phoenix Convention Center.

In level 9, Danielle Thaler, a ninth-grader at Niagara-Wheatfield High School, finished fourth all-around with a score of 32.875. Her high score of the meet was a 9.15 on floor, earning her second place. Danielle also placed fourth on beam with an 8.1, sixth on vault, and fifth on bars.

•The level 6 Niagara team participated in the Rochester Classic Meet in Rochester on Feb. 15.

In the 7-12 age division, Kendall Sobczyk, a fourth-grader at Errick Road Elementary School, placed 11th on vault, first on bars with a score of 9.500, fourth on beam and 10th on floor. Her overall score of 37.525 earned her third place.

Emily King, a fourth-grader at West Street Elementary, placed 11th on bars, first on beam with a 9.575, and tied eighth on floor. Her overall score of 36.750 earned seventh place.

Marissa Peters, a sixth-grader at Starpoint Middle School, placed fourth on and 12th on floor.

Erica Beyer, a seventh-grader at Edward Town Middle School, placed third on the vault.

In the 13-and-up age division, Maddison Walton, a ninth-grader at Niagara-Wheatfield High School, was eighth place overall. She placed seventh on bars, 11th on beam, and eighth on floor.

Gleason's level 6 finished in second place and was awarded "Most Team Spirited Award" at the Manhattan Cup Meet in Manhattan on Jan. 25.

In the junior age division, Kendall Sobczyk placed first on vault with a score of 9.35 and sixth on bars. Her overall score of 36.175 earned her fifth place.

Emily King placed first on beam with a score of 9.5. Her overall score was a 35.550, earning eighth place.

In the senior age division, Marissa Peters, a sixth-grader at Starpoint Middle School, was seventh on floor.

Erica Beyer placed fourth on the vault.

Maddison Walton, a ninth-grader at Niagara-Wheatfield High School, had an overall score of 34.850, which earned her eighth place. Her best event was the floor, taking fifth place.

•The level 8 team recently traveled to Rochester for the RGA Classic.

Nicole Ross, an eighth-grader at Edward Town Middle, placed first with a solid beam performance of 9.2 and fourth on the floor.

The level 8 team recently competed in the annual Leatherstocking Invitational Meet in Utica.

Logan Sobczyk, a sixth-grader from Edward Town Middle School, placed fourth on vault and seventh on the uneven bars with a 9.15. She also scored an 8.45 on floor.

•Gleason's level 7 team also competed at the Rochester Classic.

 Jenna Peterson, a seventh-grader at Edward Town, took ninth place on beam.

Caitlin McMahon, also of Wheatfield, an eighth-grader at St. Francis of Assisi, placed second on vault, fifth on floor and sixth on beam.

•Gleason's level 3 team took first place in the Nickel City Classic in Orchard Park on Feb. 9.

Olivia Buono from Errick Road School was fourth in the all-around with a 37.2 in the 9-year-old age group.

Brianna Ginnane from Starpoint placed 12th in the all-around for the 6-8 year old age group.

Isabella Letcher from Errick Road School was first in the all-around for the 10-year-old age group.

Megan Myhalenko from Starpoint was second in the all-around for the 9-year-old age group.

Lauren Osetkowski from Errick Road had an all-around score of 38.2, placing her first in the 9-year-old age group.

AnnaLisa Page from Niagara-Wheatfield placed 20th in the 9-year-old group.

Marissa Plekan from Starpoint was sixth in the all-around.

Sarah Potts from Errick Road was 10th in the all-around.

Morgan Vittum from Errick Road School was second in the all-around for the 10-year-old age group.
