Niagara County partners with Sunnking for electronics recycling

Releases dates for 2024 events as part of Earth Day recognition

With Earth Day celebrated nationally this Monday, April 22, Niagara County is getting a jump on the festivities by partnering with Sunnking to host an electronics recycling event in Niagara Falls on Saturday. This is a free event open to all Niagara County residents, but registration is required.

“All of us seem to end up with old computers, televisions, gaming devices and other household electronics that are just clutter in our homes,” said Dawn Timm, Niagara County Environmental coordinator. “in honor of earth day, this is a great opportunity to have them properly recycled at no cost.”

The event will take place from 8:30 a.m. to noon April 20 at the Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls, 1900 Military Road. To get a free ticket for the event, you must register at https://www.sunnking.com/events/niagara-falls-04-20-24 and choose your drop-off time. There are still close to 50 timeslots still available. A list of all acceptable items is also available at that website.

In addition, Timm released the dates for Niagara County’s free household hazardous waste (HHW) and paint recycling events for 2024. Registration opens about a month before the scheduled date for each event. The county will host six of those events this year:

√ April 27: Paint collection event, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Niagara University, Dwyer Arena

√ July 13: Household hazardous waste, 9 a.m. to noon, Lockport Town Hall, 6560 Dysinger Road

√ July 27: Paint collection event, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Starpoint Central Campus, Entrance A

√ Aug. 17: Household hazardous waste, 9 a.m. to noon, Town of Newfane Highway Garage, 6176 McKee St.

√ Sept. 28: Paint collection event, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Town of Niagara Park, 7000 Lockport Road

√ Oct. 5: Household hazardous waste, 9 a.m. to noon, City of North Tonawanda DPW, 758 Erie Ave.

“In the 10-plus years we have been operating these programs, more than 1 million pounds of harmful products have been removed from Niagara County homes and disposed of properly,” Timm said. “That is something in which the entire community can take great pride.”

Timm reminded residents the county also offers a free voucher program for those who wish to take their waste to the Hazman disposal facility in the City of Tonawanda.
