Press Release

Shea's Performing Arts Center is celebrating a significant increase in season-ticketholders for the Five Star Bank 2023-24 Broadway season at Shea's Buffalo Theatre. The first two productions of the season, “Mrs. Doubtfire” and “Moulin Rouge The Musical,” attracted 54,000 enthusiastic theatergoers – 16,500 of these attendees were season-ticketholders for the Broadway season.

"The overwhelming support from our season-ticketholders has contributed to our success," said Broadway producer Albert Nocciolino, a longtime co-presenter of the Shea's Broadway season, who expressed immense gratitude to the loyal season-ticketholders for their continued support. "Their patronage enables Shea's to bring the best of Broadway to Buffalo and further establishes the city as a top destination for Broadway tours."

The productions, “Mrs. Doubtfire” and “Moulin Rouge The Musical,” arrived in Buffalo weeks before their performance dates to conduct technical rehearsals and other pre-tour activities at Shea's Buffalo Theatre. This brought a $12 million economic boost to the City of Buffalo, with dollars spent on travel, hotels, restaurants, parking, and other local businesses by theatergoers and production staff.

Shea's Buffalo Theatre has hosted 10 national Broadway tour launches thanks to the Empire State Music and Theatrical Production Tax Credit. This program incentivizes qualified production companies to conduct technical rehearsals and other pre-tour activities in qualified regional theaters throughout upstate New York. It helps to make upstate entertainment venues competitive with others in Northeastern states that offer similar tax incentives to musical and theatrical productions produced on Broadway.

The Five Star Bank 2023-24 Broadway season at Shea's Buffalo Theatre continues in 2024 with “Girl From the North Country,” “Funny Girl,” “Les Misérables,” “Mamma Mia” and “MJ The Musical.”

Shea's Buffalo Theatre has a rich history and is vital in promoting arts and culture in Buffalo. This milestone is a testament to the dedication of Shea's staff and volunteers in creating an exceptional theater experience for all attendees.
