70-piece Buffalo Wind Symphony levels-up themes from Super Mario Bros., Minecraft, Halo, World of Warcraft, The Legend of Zelda, as well as the symphony’s lauded ‘Return to Middle Earth’ from ‘The Lord of the Rings’

Press Release

The Buffalo Wind Symphony takes to the concert stage 7:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at the McKinley High School Auditorium, 1500 Elmwood Ave., to “boldly go where no wind symphony in WNY has gone before”: Presenting the music of the video games that have become part of the fabric of modern life.

“Video game-themed music is becoming extremely popular across the world,” musical director and conductor Amy J. Steiner said.

There will also be a laser show as well as other multimedia elements to create an immersive “gamer” environment.

“Music for video games is composed and performed as major works of art,” Steiner said.

A press release noted, “Through this novel programming, Steiner and the Buffalo Wind Symphony hope to bring a younger audience and introduce them to the world of symphonic music. There are more than 3 billion active gamers worldwide, and that figure has risen by over 1 billion in just seven years.”

Steiner said, “A vast majority of the music is written by well-known composers and is not computer-generated. This adds a human aspect to our ever-changing world of technology.”

The BWS fall concert “Game On!” will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3. General admission tickets are $20. Purchase at https://buffalowinds.org/tickets/. Students ages 18 and under will be admitted free.
