Buffalo also receives prospect William Carrier

The Buffalo Sabres have announced the team acquired goaltender Jaroslav Halak, forwards Chris Stewart and William Carrier, a first-round pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft and another conditional draft pick from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for goaltender Ryan Miller and forward Steve Ott.

Halak (age 28, 5'10", 186 lbs.), whose four shutouts this season have him tied for second-best in the NHL, played four seasons with the Blues after being acquired through a trade with the Montreal Canadiens following the 2009-10 season. In 2013-14, Halak has played 40 games for the Blues, earning a 24-9-4 record with a .917 save percentage and 2.23 GAA.

Through his eight NHL seasons in Montreal and St. Louis, Halak has played in 260 games, earning a 139-81-26 record with a .917 SV and 2.38 GAA. Halak's career shootout save percentage of .711 ranks ninth among active goaltenders with at least 25 career shootouts. The Bratislava, Slovakia, native was awarded a share of the William M. Jennings Trophy in 2011-12 for achieving the league's lowest goals-against average (1.97).

Stewart (age 26, 6'2", 231 lbs.) played in parts of four seasons with the Blues, appearing in 58 games this season and tallying 26 points (15 goals, 11 assists). In 2012-13, he led the Blues with 18 goals and 36 points. A first-round pick (18th overall) by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2006 NHL Draft, Stewart played parts of three seasons in the Avalanche organization before being traded to the Blues in 2010. In six NHL seasons, the Toronto native has amassed 228 points (115/113) in 377 games played.

Carrier (age 19, 6'1", 196 lbs.) was selected by the Blues in the second round (57th overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. The LaSalle, Quebec, native has 56 points (17/39) in 59 games spent with Drummondville and Cape Breton in 2013-14, his fourth QMJHL season.
