NU students put new twist on reporting

If you were told a pool of reporters recently put together a Q-and-A with an upcoming rap artist; highlights of a Purple Eagles men's basketball game; a look at local happenings in Niagara County, complete with interviews; and an-depth feature on the future of college smartphone apps, you might expect to find the sum of these reports in the Buffalo News or a local newspaper. But seasoned press people didn't compile them - and they didn't run in print.

In fact, each news story was filmed, edited and presented by a rookie corps of reporters in Niagara University's communication studies 120A course.

In class, students worked in groups to identify timely happenings that would interest potential audiences. They then took their cameras and microphones across campus and out into the community where they gathered information. Finally, they edited their materials, objectively presenting each topic in 5-8-minute segments.
