Chris Taylor is a lifelong Grand Island resident who followed in the footsteps of family members who served their country in a branch of the armed forces when he joined the United States Air Force upon graduating from Grand Island High School in 1999. He left the Island with the memory of his uncle, Army Sgt. Philip C. Taylor, heavy on his heart. Sgt. Taylor was one of the first U.S. soldiers killed on Cambodian soil during an air strike at the tail end of the Vietnam War in 1971.

The 2021 version of Relay For Life, tentatively scheduled for June 4, is expected to look far different from previous versions of the event, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. "We are hoping for an in-person event, but it is doubtful that can happen because of New York State protocols, American Cancer Society protocols, and people's comfort levels," said Lynn Marston Dingey, one of three co-chairs of Relay For Life.

Tom Fogarty, the new general manager at Fuccillo Auto Group on Grand Island, is no stranger to the car business. A 38-year veteran of the industry, he has been a general manager with Toyota in Buffalo for 19 of the past 20 years. He now oversees all three of the Fuccillo dealerships on the Island - Toyota, Chevrolet and Hyundai.

Stevens, Michelle Lockett and Jim Sharpe were talking about bicycling and hiking on Grand Island and the urgency to bring together New York state, Erie County and Grand Island officials to create a plan to improve bike lanes, connect trails and position the Island as a true ecotourism destination.

DeGlopper was a 22-year-old United States Army soldier fighting for his country on June 9, 1944, during the Battle of Normandy campaign in World War II when he was compelled to make a split-second decision that ultimately cost him his life as he was killed in action protecting his fellow soldiers.

To the surprise (and delight) of "Chicago P.D." fans last season, it seemed a "Burzek" baby was on the way. The shipper combo of on again, off again "Chicago P.D." officers Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) was unexpectedly expecting. ... But joy turned to sorrow when Burgess had a miscarriage upon jumping in between a victim and her perpetrator.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday updated New Yorkers on the state's vaccination program. As of noon, New York's health care distribution sites have received 1,554,450 first doses and already administered 91% (1,414,241) first-dose vaccinations and 76% of first and second doses. Delivery of the week 8 allocation from the federal government begins mid-week.

Lewiston-Porter's "One District, One Book" reveal was hosted online Friday by school librarians Mrs. Zielinski and Mrs. Cumminsky. More than 400 participated in the live telecast event. When it was all said and done, the children's book "Fenway and Hattie," by Victoria J. Coe, was declared the winner.
