Village of Lewiston residents reelected Nick Conde to a fourth term on the Board of Trustees, and chose Historic Preservation Commission member Jim Fittante to replace Dan Gibson, who opted not to run for office again.

On Saturday, the Wheatfield Lions Club officially dedicated the new fishing deck and improvements to the pond at our Five Senses Park, and accessible trails made possible with the efforts of many people both within our organization - but also thanks to Niagara Greenway funds. Dedicated to past club President Lion Walter Garrow, this amazing project was created, promoted and chaired by Lion Walt with great care and attention.

Fresh off this weekend's Lewiston Garden Festival and "Porchfest," an annual favorite will take place Thursday up in Youngstown. The 14th annual Beginning of Summer Street Dance and Car Cruise will take over the village's Main Street strip from 6-10 p.m. with music, dancing and fun for all ages.

A young man who grew up on a farm on Grand Island and who died in combat in France at the age of 22 was remembered Sunday at a ceremony held 80 years after his death. He was honored at the park named for him, DeGlopper Memorial Park, with a rifle salute and with a military helicopter flyover during the event.

The Lewiston Garden Club will present its annual Lewiston GardenFest from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, June 15-16, along Center Street. The Lewiston Garden Club event will include approximately 70 vendors selling flowers, plants, and handcrafted garden essentials, along with a garden walk, speakers, and a container garden contest.

The vivid bright greens inside The Plant Shack were accompanied by myriad colors Saturday afternoon, as the shop hosted the third annual "Paintings & Pottery" event. Outside the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum last Friday, we met a graceful Billye Aaron, the widow of Henry Lewis "Hammerin' Hank" Aaron to present a plaque, titled, "Henry Aaron's Connection with Buffalo, New York." It was one day after a bronze statue of her husband was unveiled, and moments before the ribbon would be cut on the museum's newest exhibit, "The Souls of the Game: The Voices of Black Baseball."

Island voters approved the Grand Island Central School District's 2024-25 budget by the vote of 772-445 during a vote at the high school on Tuesday. Voters also approved a proposition authorizing the purchase of three buses to transport students and two vehicles for buildings and grounds by the vote of 763-453.
