When Healing Earth CBD opened in the summer of 2021, public response "was very, very positive," co-owner Brandon Rush said. "You know, obviously there's a huge issue with education. A lot of people come in, and they don't know the difference between marijuana and hemp. They don't know what the difference between CBD and what THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is, or what it does to the body. So, we spend a lot of time educating customers. But I think, overall, it's been a very positive customer experience. I mean, we've done very well; we're obviously still in business."

The Town of Porter announced will hold a public hearing on its $5,684,540 tentative budget for 2023 at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7, at Town Hall. By the numbers, the plan reflects a modest drop in overall spending from the town's adopted 2022 budget of $5,770,583.42, according to town bookkeeper Kim Boyer.

He also explained Acquest Development Inc., owner of the property where the proposed Amazon warehouse was to be built, presented the town with a plan to build a 1.1 million-square-foot, one-floor, high-bay warehouse on the site.

Holiday Happenings, held at the Grand Island Golden Age Center, featured a number of vendors and crafters, who sold such things as notecards, book pillows, jams and jellies, winter squash, soaps, homemade candies, and handmade blankets. In addition, people could buy lunch, prepared by the center's cook, or they could buy baked goods, prepared by members of the Golden Age Center.

Seven years ago, several local veterans and town officials met in the Grand Island Moose Lodge to discuss developing a vacant lot. Located in the center of town, at the corners of Grand Island Boulevard and Baseline Road, they sought to build a memorial site for hometown hero and U.S. Army soldier Pfc. Charles N. DeGlopper - and all town veterans of the armed forces.
