Budget issues presented at Grand Island Board of Education meeting

As of April 4, New York State's budget had not yet been passed. At the Grand Island Central School District Board of Education meeting on that date, Dr. Rubie Harris, assistant superintendent of budget and finance, said, "We're confident that the aid that was allocated in the January funds is what we will receive. We'll be blessed if we receive more than that. We don't expect it to be less."
Shoreline restoration project underway near Buckhorn Island State Park

A shoreline protection program is currently underway in the West River near Buckhorn Island State Park. Dan Dinsmore, field superintendent for LDC Construction, said the Grand Island company, owned by Lyle Dinsmore, is doing the project for the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.

In that period of time, she said her neighbors have been unable to enjoy their backyards because of persistent drainage issues and copious amounts of standing water. "I'm just thankful that I have a raised little concrete patio that I am able to sit on. If it weren't for that little patio, I would have not been able to sit in the backyard at all."

In July of 2021, Bashar Srouji was in the midst of realizing his lifelong dream. His Mediterranean restaurant/pizzeria, Ghada Have It!, was six months into a successful first year of operation. But on July 20, a historic rainstorm in the Town of Niagara nearly washed those dreams away completely.
