Wheatfield Town Board holds first 2019 meeting

Monday night, the Town of Wheatfield Town Board met for its first regular meeting of 2019. The meeting was rather light, but brought up some reoccurring topics from 2018, specifically a change in code with regards to Summit Mall opportunities and the town's proposed switch to LED lighting.
Pappas announces $1.47 million water infrastructure improvements grant

City of North Tonawanda Mayor Arthur G. Pappas announced recently that the city has been awarded a grant in the amount of $1.47 million from Gov. Andrew Cuomo for water infrastructure improvements in Western New York.

NCSO K-9 Chief to get donation of body armor

The Niagara County Sheriff's Office K-9 Chief will receive a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s Inc. K-9 Chief's vest is sponsored by Pam, Corey and Todd Harmon of Lockport and will be embroidered with the sentiment "In memory of Chief Craig C. Harmon." Delivery is expected within eight to 10 weeks.

On Saturday, the Town of Wheatfield held its annual Christmas tree lighting and kids party at the town's Community Center. The festivities helped bring in the 2018 version of the holiday season, as Santa Claus arrived via a St. Johnsburg Fire Co. truck and greeted children upon arrival.

Recently, the Town of Niagara Town Board sat down, reviewed and discussed the proposed 2019 budget. In front of the board members, Town Supervisor Lee Wallace presented a $8,750,012.88 budget, which is $273,985.12 less than the 2018 proposed budget.
New shredding service offers job training for people with disabilities
