Effective Monday, Feb. 28, Niagara County Community College is removing the mandatory masking requirement on campus for those fully compliant with the coronavirus vaccine mandate as defined by the Centers for Disease Control, New York state, the State University of New York and the Niagara County Department of Health. While masks will no longer be required, it is encouraged that individuals wear them when in close proximity to others.

Dr. Glenda Rose and Dr. Thomas Barba of Rose Chiropractic P.C. in Lewiston sponsored the 32nd annual "Doctors with a Heart" Day for their patients. In exchange for chiropractic services, nonperishable food items were collected from the public to benefit Niagara Community Action Program's food pantries.

When members of the Friends of the Library think of community service and volunteerism one person comes to mind: Mamie Simonson. She was the backbone of our organization for years. Not a project, fundraiser or event took place without Mamie Simonson's involvement and always with her beautiful smile. Mamie passed away in 2016 and is fondly remembered by all of us.

At 2:47 a.m. Monday morning, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office communications center was notified of a vehicle pursuit entering Niagara County from the Town of Amherst. It was reported that a silver Cadillac sedan was fleeing Amherst PD after the occupants were found stealing from cars in a local neighborhood.

But in recent weeks, exterior work has been readily evident and on display for all to see, with massive lifts, scaffolding and tarps surrounding the 198-year-old building.

The Western New York community is invited to begin the Lenten season by participating in what organizers called an "enjoyable, values-based Ash Wednesday retreat-workshop" at Stella Niagara's Center of Renewal. Village of Lewiston Board members were pleased with the Department of Public Works' response to the nearly 2 feet of snow that accumulated from Sunday night into Monday morning. They said Superintendent Larry Wills and his team wasted no time in clearing roads and sidewalks, enabling residents to travel, and restaurants and businesses to open.
