DEC: Hunting & trapping licenses are now on sale

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos announced hunting and trapping licenses and deer management permits (DMPs) for the 2022-23 seasons are now on sale. Expanded hunting opportunities offered last year are also available to hunters this year.
Hochul launches health care worker bonus program

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the launch of the health care and mental hygiene worker bonus program. Enacted in the fiscal year 2023 New York state budget, the program includes $1.3 billion allocated for the payment of recruitment and retention bonuses to certain health care and mental hygiene workers, a key initiative in the governor's aim to increase the state's health care workforce by 20% over the next five years.

The New York State Department of Civil Service (DCS) and the Department of Motor Vehicles on Monday announced the online civil service exam period is open for motor vehicle representatives. The exam, which is being offered as an online exam for the first time, is used to fill positions across the DMV. Qualified candidates can take the exam online until 11:59 P.M. Wednesday, Aug. 31.
Higgins joins families of Flight 3407 for plaque dedication at FAA headquarters

Congressman Brian Higgins on Monday joined the families of Flight 3407 for events in Washington, D.C., marking the 12th anniversary of President Barack Obama signing the Airline Safety and Federal Aviation Administration Act of 2010. $1.64 million+ in FEMA funding for ECMC

Congressman Brian Higgins announced federal funding totaling $1,640,522 for Erie County Medical Center. Funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security through the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the award reimburses the medical center for personal protective equipment and supplies needed to treat and prevent the spread of coronavirus, as well as contract services used to support hospital functions during the pandemic.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the vast majority of $567 million dedicated to help low-income electric and gas utility customers pay off past utility bills will be reflected on customers' August bills. The financial assistance program includes an estimated $557 million statewide COVID-19 bill credit program for low-income customers adopted by the New York State Public Service Commission.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced all New Yorkers enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will receive the maximum allowable level of food benefits for July. All households participating in SNAP - including those already at the maximum level of benefits - will receive a supplemental allotment this month, resulting in a roughly $234 million infusion of federal funding into the New York state economy.

Niagara Falls Police investigating shooting outside 7-Eleven

At approximately 5:15 a.m. Saturday, Niagara Falls Police Department officers responded to 15th Street and Pine Avenue for a report of a man shot. Upon arrival at 1504 Pine Ave., officers located a 28-year-old male suffering from numerous serious gunshot wounds, laying on the ground outside a 7-Eleven.
