A tractor-trailer, loaded with 16 pallets of relief donations from Grand Island, began its trip from the Southern Tier town of Fillmore to Boone, North Carolina, on Oct. 7. It began its journey at Grand Island Town Hall two days earlier. The full trailer happened as the result of efforts by three men who live on the same street near Huth Road Elementary School.

The Grand Island Town Board, at its Sept. 3 meeting, issued a proclamation to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the National Association of Women Business Owners Buffalo Niagara (NAWBO), which will occur on Sept. 11. The DeGlopper Memorial expansion committee gathered on Monday, Aug. 26, to witness the installation of a Purple Heart monument that recognizes men and women who were wounded in battle, and a second monument that displays the poignant words of the taps song that is played at every military funeral. The monuments have been added to the DeGlopper Memorial site, located at the triangle of Baseline Road and Grand Island Boulevard.

The IKE Carrier Strike Group (CSG) returned to Norfolk, Virginia, after a historic nine-month combat deployment to U.S. 5th Fleet on July 14. On-board was Grand Island native Lt. Carlee Conway. She was part of Fighter Strike squadron, VFA-32, the "Fighting Swordsmen."
