The DeGlopper Memorial expansion committee gathered on Monday, Aug. 26, to witness the installation of a Purple Heart monument that recognizes men and women who were wounded in battle, and a second monument that displays the poignant words of the taps song that is played at every military funeral. The IKE Carrier Strike Group (CSG) returned to Norfolk, Virginia, after a historic nine-month combat deployment to U.S. 5th Fleet on July 14. On-board was Grand Island native Lt. Carlee Conway. She was part of Fighter Strike squadron, VFA-32, the "Fighting Swordsmen."
