NFPA provides top grilling safety tips for Memorial Day and beyond

For many of us, Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start of summer, when many people dust off their grills to celebrate the holiday and prepare for outdoor cooking in the warmer months ahead. As they do, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) offers important safety tips and guidelines to help ensure that the grilling season remains fire-safe.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced inflation refund checks up to $400 will be sent this fall to 8.2 million households across New York state. Checks will be mailed directly to eligible New Yorkers starting in October and will continue through November. There is no need to apply, sign up or do anything to receive a check.
ECMC 'Springfest' celebrates caregivers

Erie County Medical Center Corp. and ECMC Foundation, on Saturday, May 10, presented "Springfest Gala 2025," the largest not-for-profit gala in Western New York, which drew 1,800 attendees from the business, medical and ECMC communities for an evening of entertainment, fine dining and celebration. "Springfest" raised $1.2 million to benefit lifesaving medical services at ECMC.

Greenway: Shoreline Bike Trail gets final piece in Niagara County

The final piece of the 54-mile-long Niagara River Shoreline Bike Trail, a path for bikers and walkers that spans from Buffalo to Youngstown, was opened Monday behind the Frontier Volunteer Fire Co. firehall on River Road at the border of North Tonawanda and Wheatfield.

On Monday, the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation announced a nearly $12 million project to improve and expand the visitor experience at Earl W. Brydges Artpark State Park is complete. Upgrades include a new connector trail, entrance features and parking improvements meant to improve traffic flow for events and better connect the park with the trails and amenities of the Lower Niagara River.
