The Town of Lewiston Town Council held an executive session Monday night. Board members discussed the Frontier House, which led some in the community to speculate the municipality was again interested in purchasing the 194-year-old Center Street property.

As work continues on the expansion of the DeGlopper Memorial in the center of Grand Island, about a dozen people held a peaceful gathering in the park to show their support for a statue depicting Charles DeGlopper with a rifle.

Old Fort Niagara welcomes the public to its "Soldiers through the Ages" military history re-enactment event on Saturday and Sunday, May 26 and 27, over Memorial Day weekend. This annual event features special displays of military vehicles, period camps from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, weapons demonstrations, uniform programs and hands-on activities for families. In commemoration of the centennial of the Battle of Cantigny in World War I, a special program will also be presented in the Fort Niagara Officers' Club.

Law enforcement personnel who died in the line of duty were honored Wednesday at the 21st annual Niagara Interfaith Chaplaincy Police Memorial Service. The event took place at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 400 Ridge St., Lewiston.

Congressman Brian Higgins attended the 37th annual National Peace Officers' Memorial Service in Washington, D.C., where fallen Buffalo Police Department officer Craig Lehner was recognized for his sacrifice. Several members of the Buffalo Police Department were also on Capitol Hill for the event.

Twenty officials from the Republic of Korea's Ministry of Health & Welfare spent a portion of Tuesday morning at Community Missions' Buffalo Avenue offices. The group sought to look at different approaches to homeless services, as it is reviewing its current programs and management, and looking for new strategies to implement.

AFL/CIO Niagara Orleans Central Labor Council held its 27th annual Workers Memorial Day observation on Saturday. The event took place at the Workers Memorial Monument in Reservoir Park, located just off Route 31 at the base of the New York Power Authority reservoir. Workers, their friends and families, attended the ceremony, which was emceed by Labor Liaison Bill Jakobi.

A luncheon was held inside the Niagara Falls Conference Center on Old Falls Street. The Health Association of Niagara County Inc. recently hosted a book launch celebration at the Wheatfield Community Center, honoring almost 70 Niagara County residents aged 90 and older who took part in the "Faces of Niagara" portrait book. Almost 150 people gathered last Saturday to celebrate the lives of these remarkable individuals.

The Lewiston Lions Club held its first Strides Diabetes Awareness 5K Run/walk on Sunday. A good crowd came out on a chilly morning to take part in a 5K run and walk to raise awareness for diabetes awareness and prevention programs in the area.
