Following President Donald Trump's signing of the historic Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, Small Business Administrstion Administrator Jovita Carranza and Treasury Secretary Steven T. Mnuchin today announced the SBA and Treasury Department have initiated a robust mobilization effort of banks and other lending institutions to provide small businesses with the capital they need.

Amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Sunday announced all "New York State on PAUSE" functions will be extended for the next two weeks. He also directed the state nonessential workforce to continue to work from home for an additional two weeks, through April 15. The state will re-evaluate after this additional two-week period.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Friday announced all schools in New York state must remain closed for an additional two weeks, until April 15, to ensure consistency and uniformity across the state in instructional time for this extraordinary school year. Schools will be required to continue child care, meal and distance learning programs, and the state will extend the 180-day waiver to April 15.

Amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday announced the USNS Comfort will be deployed to New York harbor and is expected to arrive in April. The 1,000-bed hospital ship has 12 fully equipped operating rooms and will significantly increase New York's hospital surge capacity. The governor is meeting with leadership of the Army Corp of Engineers to discuss ways to increase hospital capacity in New York.

During a novel coronavirus briefing Wednesday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced New York state will contract with 28 private labs to increase testing capacity for the novel coronavirus. Following a call with the 28 labs, the governor announced he has instructed the labs to begin testing immediately as soon as they are ready. The 28 labs are specialized in virology and are routine partners with the New York State Department of Health.

Among the rating criteria, Buffalo-Niagara scored a nice No. 10 ranking for St. Patrick's Day traditions, a No. 29 rank for our weather, and No. 30 for the safety and accessibility of our many celebrations.
