On Tuesday, First Niagara Foundation and KeyBank executives announced their continued support of Say Yes Buffalo with a $2 million gift to the organization's five-year, $100 million endowment campaign, which will ensure scholarship availability for eligible students forever. Including this donation, the First Niagara Foundation and KeyBank collectively have committed more than $4.1 million to the Say Yes Buffalo scholarship fund.

On Thursday afternoon, coworkers and local elected leaders joined Ellicott Development CEO William Paladino as he broke ground on property overlooking a new plaza project. His company, in 2012, purchased a 4.1-acre parcel of land at Center, North Eighth and Onondaga streets. Three buildings offering a mix of commercial and culinary tenants, as well as rental spaces, are expected to open in the next year.
New mural unveiled at International Peace Garden

A new mural titled "Peaces" can now be seen in the International Peace Garden at 476 Center St., Lewiston. This work of art is the latest creation by artist Thomas P. Asklar. He was assisted by artists Matthew Conroy, Zach Carlson, Matthew LeBoeuf and a few local high school art students.

On Wednesday, New York State Sen. Rob Ortt presented $40,000 in education funds to five local museums from across Niagara County for improvements in educational programs currently offered, as well as the addition of new educational resources. Joining the host of the event, the Niagara Aerospace Museum, was the Herschell Carousel Factory Museum, the Historical Society of North German Settlements in WNY, the Historical Association of Lewiston, and the Sanborn Area Historical Society.

Empire State Development on Tuesday announced the recipients of funding for Oath's Community Benefit Fund for Lockport and Oath's Yahoo Community Fund for Niagara County - Empire State Development. For the 2018 funding cycle, $510,000 was awarded to 20 projects. Each year from 2015-21, Oath has committed to granting $500,000 to community organizations in Lockport and the surrounding areas.

Rows of extra chairs were wheeled into the Morgan Lewis Village Boardroom on Monday night to accommodate the large number of residents who filed into the Red Brick to learn more about an "Oxford House" on Creek Road Extension. After about a half-hour of civil discourse at the monthly board meeting, residents were told the group home is legal. Furthermore, the occupants can function as they have since the local program was established last September.
