Come Jan. 1, water fees in the Village of Lewiston will increase. The board acted Monday to approve local laws raising the water improvements surcharge from $10 to $15 per billing cycle, and to up the water rate from $4.03 to $4.25 per 100 cubic feet of usage.

Artpark marked its 50th anniversary in 2024 with spectacular concerts, impactful community programs, stunning visual art exhibits and unique special events that celebrated Artpark's rich history. To successfully conclude the anniversary year, Artpark's board of directors has issued a community challenge: If Artpark raises $50,000 in the final 50 days of its 50th year, the board of directors will match contributions dollar for dollar.

The waterfront park at Lewiston Landing - in between the Griffon Gastropub and The Silo Restaurant - is in line for a $43,000 makeover, courtesy of the Lewiston Beautification Committee and Garden Club. By next spring, the North Water Street green space will have new fencing, picnic tables and swings.

The Lewiston Beautification group informed the Tribune/Sentinel that more decorative pumpkins were stolen from their Center Street display this week. Thefts occurred either late Tuesday or early Wednesday. Volunteers are "beyond frustrated" this happened for a second time since displays were installed two weekends ago.

Kenyon Serpas, a junior at the University at Buffalo, was the recipient of this year's Historical Association of Lewiston's Indigenous Peoples' Day Scholarship. The award ceremony was held Monday at the Tuscarora Heroes Monument on Center Street, in recognition of the longstanding friendship between the people of Lewiston and the Tuscarora Nation.

Lewiston Veterans of Foreign Wars Downriver Post 7487 is raising money to help the Buffalo Sled Vets defend their Toyota USA Hockey Sled National Championship adult tier 5 pool A title. The team's leading scorer, Matthew Daniels, is a member of the VFW, and attended Lewiston-Porter and Niagara Wheatfield high schools before serving in the U.S. military.

The Frontier House did not reopen over the summer, as ownership hoped, but it's still on track to welcome visitors back in 2024 - the building's 200th anniversary year. Lewiston's historic crown jewel has been closed since December 2004, and under construction since December 2020.
