Today, Girl Scouts of Western New York (GSWNY) and Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) kicked off a countdown to the 2021 Girl Scout Cookie season with the announcement of a new cookie in Western New York and other select areas: Toast-Yay!, a French toast-inspired cookie "dipped in delicious icing and full of flavor in every bite."

For the next two weeks, Niagara County Pride - a program of The Pride Center of WNY - will be collecting backpacks and other school supplies to help kids in need this year. The group's goal is to collect 50 backpacks filled with supplies to be able to give to local children.

The largest one-time gift in the history of Buffalo Prep's 31-year existence was given by KeyBank, in partnership with the First Niagara Foundation, in the amount of $750,000.

Gov. Cuomo signed a new law Monday, which goes into effect Nov. 1, requiring all passengers to wear a seat belt in the back seat of a motor vehicle, including passengers of ride sharing services like Uber and Lyft. Until now, passengers over age 16 were not required to wear seat belts in the rear seat in New York. The new law, championed by AAA New York state, will save lives and prevent injuries across state roadways by requiring all occupants in a motor vehicle to buckle up.

On Tuesday, WellNow Urgent Care announced its new offering of on-campus COVID-19 testing clinics for universities and colleges. Programs will offer molecular (PCR) COVID-19 testing administered to students, faculty and school staff by WellNow professionals. Each program will be custom developed to meet the needs and testing requirements outlined by the school.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday announced a Friday deadline for school districts that have not submitted plans for in-person learning. His office claimed 107 school districts had not submitted a plan for in-person learning. Districts that fail to meet the Friday deadline will be unable to provide in-person learning this year.

AAA Western and Central New York is thrilled that Gov. Cuomo approved virtual classes for the five-hour pre-licensing course that is required in New York state to obtain a driver's license. With classroom instruction not allowed in New York at this time, many students were frustrated waiting for the required coursework.
