DECA does well at Region 12 competition

Grand Island hosted this year's DECA Region 12 competition on Sunday, Dec. 13. Twelve schools competed in business-related events with judges from local companies.

Tops Friendly Markets announced that, during the month of January, it is offering schools the chance to earn double the rewards as part of its "Tops in Education" program ("TIE"). Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the opening of the application period for the "Nurses For Our Future." The scholarship will cover tuition for 1,000 new or current health care workers to earn an associate's degree in nursing (ADN) or bachelor's of science in nursing (BSN) at a two-year or four-year New York state public college or university.

LEVEL art gallery opens at Lewiston-Porter

On Wednesday evening, the Lewiston-Porter School District hosted a ribbon-cutting for its new LEVEL gallery. Located at the Center for the Arts at Lewiston-Porter High School, the new art space will operate under the direction of the art department. It will serve as the new home for the annual district art show, in addition to showcasing student artwork throughout the year and hosting community events.

Rich Family Foundation funds college dreams of thousands of high-school scholars with $1 million grant to Say Yes Buffalo

Rich Family Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Rich Products, has announced a $1 million grant to the Say Yes Buffalo Endowment Campaign. The gift, which will be distributed over the next five years, directly removes financial barriers to thousands of Buffalo public and charter high-school graduates who seek to earn a certificate, associate's or bachelor's degree. And it doubles the foundation's previous donation to Say Yes - a five-year grant of $500,000 awarded in 2016.
Higgins seeking applicants for 2022 internships

The University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine has received a nearly $735,000 grant from the Delta Dental Community Care Foundation to increase the delivery of critical dental treatment to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Western New York, as well as to help grow the oral health care workforce prepared to treat this population.

Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University receives Conservation Treatment Grant

The Greater Hudson Heritage Network (GHHN) is awarding a $4,500 conservation treatment grant to the Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University to conserve a Joachim Ferdinand Richardt painting of the Niagara River from the museum's permanent collection. The artwork has never been publicly displayed, because of its poor condition when first acquired.
Wegmans increases investment in employee scholarship program

Congressman Brian Higgins announced passage of the Responsible Education Mitigating Options and Technical Extensions (REMOTE) Act (H.R. 5545). The bill ensures veterans attending college remotely as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic will continue to receive Veterans Affairs Department (VA) education benefits through June 2022.
