In basketball, teams "live and die by the three." Wednesday night, the North Tonawanda Lumberjacks lived on it. North Tonawanda defeated Niagara-Wheatfield on the Falcons' senior night, 68-60.

NIMAC seeking applicants for Merrell Lane Scholarship

The Niagara Military Affairs Council has established a scholarship named in honor of Merrell Lane, long-time chairman and co-founder of NIMAC. The annual scholarship will be awarded to enlisted members assigned to the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station who are in pursuit of an aviation-related career.

The cosmetology students at the Niagara Career and Technical Education Center spent their day talking to professionals in the fields of beauty, wellness and fashion. Their teachers, Jill Beatty, Cathy Bonaccorso and Pauline Carney, arranged for local vendors and colleges to come set up tables at the center and talk to the students. 
Local author visits Spruce Elementary

Author Jennifer Gold was the honored guest at Spruce Elementary School recently. Gold read to the students from her books "Top Leaf," which tells the story of a very rude leaf who lives at a top of a tree, and "Yes, I Knew the Queen" which is a long poem about letting a story get out of hand. 
Local volleyball players win tournament

Disney|ABC Television and Disney Publishing Worldwide announced the seventh annual "Magic of Storytelling" campaign, which aims to donate up to 1 million books to First Book, a nonprofit that provides new free and affordable books to educators and organizations serving children from low-income families. Now through March 31, the campaign aims to inspire families' imaginations, cultivate a lifelong love of reading in kids, and bring books to underserved communities across the country.

Niagara-Wheatfield's Raejaun Smith would be the first to admit he's been struggling at the free throw line the past couple games. Despite the struggles, Smith came through when it mattered most for the Falcons. The Falcons defeated the Kenmore East Bulldogs 71-69 Friday night, in what was a thriller from start to finish.
Orleans/Niagara BOCES graduates new class of LPNs

Winter athletics are back in full swing at Niagara-Wheatfield High School after a short holiday break. Teams saw mixed results this past week, but the wrestling team, which has been the team of the winter, so far, continued its strong season.
