NYSEG and RG&E, subsidiaries of AVANGRID Inc., announced they will begin a phased approach to resuming customer-facing work that was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The first phase will begin in the coming weeks and will include work that will directly support customer safety and service reliability, such as indoor gas line safety inspections, which state regulations require the companies to complete.

The New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) announced more than $100 million in additional emergency food assistance for New Yorkers adversely affected by the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic. About 750,000 low-income individuals and families enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will receive the maximum allowable benefit for June to help them avoid food insecurity.

The Alzheimer's Foundation of America's (AFA) will host a free virtual educational conference as part of its national Educating America Tour to help New Yorkers affected by Alzheimer's disease during the COVID-19 crisis. The event will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 16. It is designed to provide information and advice from health, legal and caregiving experts. New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos announced that the traditional harvest season for largemouth and smallmouth bass opens June 20 and closes Nov. 30. In most waters, there is also a catch and release season starting on Dec. 1, and continuing until the start of the regular season, during which anglers can fish for bass using artificial lures. There are special fishing regulations for some waters, and York anglers should check the current fishing regulations guide before heading out to fish.
