On Tuesday, Erie County Clerk Mickey Kearns held a press conference, calling on the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles to amend what he called "a significant mistake" with its license renewal notifications. The DMV, Kearns said, is failing to alert drivers of the appropriate documents required when applying for a "Real ID" or enhanced driver license.

The Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday announced the 11th annual Buffalo Sabres Foundation Golf Tournament, presented by J.W. Danforth, will take place Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Wanakah Country Club in Hamburg. Registration for the tournament will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a 10 a.m. shotgun start.

On June 1, 10-year-old Gavin Burns was injured in a lawnmower accident at his home in Lewiston. Mercy Flight took him to Oishei Children's Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. Doctors were able to save Gavin's leg, but, unfortunately, they were not able to save his foot, which had to be amputated just above his ankle.

Poloncarz outlined a package of proposed reforms for the Erie County Water Authority, which was the subject of a recent report from the state Authorities Budget Office (ABO) that formally censured the Erie County Water Authority and outlined numerous problems, including a lack of transparency and accountability in governance and decision-making.

Local UAW members and its veterans committee teamed up with AT&T to help collect more than 350 gently used mobile devices over the past three months. These phones will be donated to Cell Phones For Soldiers. The phones were collected at AT&T stores and UAW Locals across Western New York (including Lockport, Buffalo, Tonawanda and Hamburg).

The Niagara County Board of Elections on Thursday recanvassed the ballots from the Village of Lewiston mayoral race and certified the results. Pending a legal challenge, Anne Welch is the mayor-elect, topping challenger and current Deputy Mayor Bruce Sutherland by three votes.
