The Buffalo Sabres today announced the team, in partnership with Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, will again take part in the NHL's "Hockey Fights Cancer." This year's program will take place during the team's home game against the San Jose Sharks at 7 p.m. tomorrow.

Polka music fans are asked to bring winter, holiday and personal items to the annual Christmas sing-along, hosted by Buffalo's Special Delivery Band. Items will benefit St. Luke's Mission of Mercy, an independent mission in the Roman Catholic tradition located in the inner city of Buffalo.

Two Niagara University Theatre alumni and 12 current students presented two numbers from the musical "Grease," as part of Roswell Park Cancer Institute's annual gala on Saturday, Nov. 10. The event was themed "Summer Nights" in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the film.

Celebrate the season with the Niagara University Opportunity Program as it presents its annual Christmas benefit concert at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7,in the Russell Salvatore Dining Commons on campus. The event is free and open to the public, though a free-will offering is suggested. Proceeds will benefit Community Missions. Last year, more than $1,000 was raised to support Community Missions' programs and services.

Excitement is growing for an all-inclusive play area unlike anything else in Lewiston. Village officials met recently to review a near-final set of designs for Mason's Mission Playground at Marilyn Toohey Park. When completed - hopefully by next summer - the playground is expected to be almost 14,000 square feet.

M&T Bank has announced the return of "Gift of Warmth," the area's longest-running warm clothing collection program for local families in need. Nov. 26 through Jan. 4, all 65 M&T branches throughout Western New York will collect donations of new mittens, gloves, scarves, hats and coats on behalf of The Salvation Army of Buffalo.

Deposits for Food presented donations to two Niagara Falls food pantries last week: Community Missions, and Heart, Love & Soul. The proceeds were obtained from D4F's collections of returnable containers and scrap metal. To date, total donations have topped $55,000.
