New York Power Authority reinforces New York's energy transmission system

The New York Power Authority is implementing a wide‑reaching, multiyear transmission life extension and modernization (TLEM) program to replace and refurbish transmission assets at sites across the state. The $726 million program, which encompasses the switchyards, substations, transmission line structures and hardware, submarine cables and rights of way that comprise NYPA's transmission system, began in 2012 and is scheduled to be completed in 2025.

Erie County Fair named largest east of the Rockies

A national ranking of top fairs and exhibitions has named the Erie County Fair the largest county fair east of the Rocky Mountains, the fourth-largest county fair in the U.S., and 13th-largest fair overall in North America in 2018. The ranking of fairs, based on attendance, is published annually by CarnivalWarehouse.com. The "Top 50 Fair" list includes all county and state fairs, exhibitions and rodeo shows in the U.S. and Canada.
Niagara County: Pistol permit office open due to holiday

The Niagara County Pistol Permit Office, generally closed to the public each Wednesday, will be open Dec. 26, the day after Christmas. County Clerk Joseph Jastrzemski noted that, historically, the day after Christmas is especially busy, as staff accommodates permitholders who have most recently received new handguns.

Underwood announced a record $174.2 million consumer fraud settlement with Charter Communications Inc. and Spectrum Management Holding Company (together "Charter") for defrauding internet subscribers. The $62.5 million in direct refunds to consumers alone are believed to represent the largest-ever payout to consumers by an internet service provider (ISP) in U.S. history.
NYPA board approves $600 million credit line to finance energy-efficiency programs
