Totally Buffalo's "Hope for The Holidays" - one of Buffalo's newest charities - is completing its second annual "Make a Case for Kids 2020" campaign to help out kids in need in Niagara County. After a huge response from members of the WNY community who donated hundreds of toys, the campaign will be stuffing cases and filling dream wish lists of 160 Niagara County children.

Niagara University, in partnership with St. John's and DePaul universities, has expanded its Esports program with the establishment of the Vincentian Cup, an annual event for the three Vincentian universities in the U.S. Produced by the Electronic Gaming Federation, the inaugural competition will be held Dec. 9-12 and feature competition in multiple Esports titles.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday announced New York state will receive an initial delivery of enough COVID-19 vaccine doses for 170,000 residents. If all safety and efficacy approvals are granted by the federal government, the state expects to receive the vaccines - which were created by Pfizer - on Dec. 15. New York expects additional allocations of vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna later this month.

The Island Dispatch has learned Michael Huntress, vice president of Acquest Development LLC of Amherst, submitted a site plan to the Town of Grand Island for a proposed 1,080,308-square-foot distribution facility project on Long Road. The structure would sit on land its own, along the New York State Thruway I-190 - an area that was under consideration by Amazon for a proposed 3.8 million-square-foot distribution center.

The Erie County Department of Health (ECDOH) will provide use of its Division of Emergency Medical Services new limited service lab (LSL) license to schools within New York state-designated micro-cluster zones. Last Friday, officials from Niagara County and the Town of Wheatfield were on hand at the Wheatfield Senior Center to hand out over 100 Thanksgiving dinners to local seniors. The event was part of Niagara County Legislator Jesse Gooch's "Meals With Heart From Six Feet Apart" program that he created in March to offer affordable meals to seniors in the community amid the ongoing pandemic.

New York Attorney General Letitia James on Mondday filed a lawsuit against the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo and former senior leaders Bishop Emeritus Richard J. Malone and former Auxiliary Bishop Edward M. Grosz, for "failing to follow mandated policies and procedures that would help to prevent the rampant sexual abuse of minors by priests within the Catholic Church."

The Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres foundations will provide 1,000 Thanksgiving meals for families throughout Western New York with a total donation of more than $50,000 this holiday season. The donation is a part of the direct community aid initiative Terry and Kim Pegula launched in March that has committed $1.2 million to help members of the community who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The New York State Department of State announced a new online application for the address confidentiality program (ACP) in which victims of domestic violence, stalking, sexual offenses and human trafficking can protect themselves from their perpetrators by getting a new undisclosed address. It said this online application will facilitate a swift and secure enrollment into the program for individuals who previously could only apply for the program via mail or fax.
