Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, today joined his legislative colleagues from Western New York in a meeting with Gov. Andrew Cuomo to discuss the chief executive's proposal to invest $1 billion in the Buffalo-Niagara region in order to create jobs and foster economic growth.

While the Village of Lewiston has tabled plans to build a new, multimillion-dollar recreation center, trustees have opted to go forward with a previously scheduled public forum. Those for and against the idea (or possible locations) are invited to attend a 6 p.m. meeting tonight in the Red Brick Municipal Building gym, 145 N. Fourth St.
Architect David Giusiana will present the plateau design, which was first unveiled on Friday. Mayor Terry Collesano will read a prepared statement, and trustees will add all comments to the public record.

Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, and State Sen. George Maziarz, R-C-I-Newfane, are calling on residents to sign and/or return "Empower Niagara" petitions urging Gov. Andrew Cuomo to appoint a Niagara County resident to the New York Power Authority's board of trustees by Friday, Jan. 6. To date, more than 1,000 signatures have been collected, which will be delivered to the governor's office next week.

Beginning January 1, 2012, any organization engaged in the collection of solid waste for delivery to a New York state solid waste management facility (i.e. private or municipal solid waste haulers/transporters), businesses, private or public corporations, not-for-profit corporations and government entities are prohibited from disposing of electronic equipment in landfills. Recently, six members of the Erie County Farm Bureau joined hundreds of other farm bureau members from across the Empire State in Binghamton for the New York Farm Bureau's State Annual Meeting. The event marks the time when policies are debated and voted upon by county appointed delegates. These discussions determine the agricultural policy issues to be adopted by the organization for 2012.
