H&R Block helping local communities nationwide during 'One Team Day of Giving'

H&R Block associates in all 50 states and Puerto Rico will unite on Monday, Dec. 17, to give back to the communities where they live and work. Understanding there is strength in numbers, H&R Block is holding its first "One Team Day of Giving" event, a single day where associates from all over the country will serve each of their communities, ranging from feeding the homeless and delivering toys to underprivileged children to revitalizing animal shelters and collecting snacks for military care packages.

The Erie County Department of Health has confirmed a recent émigré treated at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital has been diagnosed with measles. This individual had visited multiple venues in Erie County, potentially exposing others to measles from Dec. 4-11.
Niagara County adopts $359M spending plan

Niagara County lawmakers approved a $359 million budget plan Tuesday night, reducing taxes to their lowest level in decades, at $7.01 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. That represents a 1.3 percent cut over last year's tax rate. In addition, the 2019 budget is $628,000 below the state-mandated tax cap. This is the eighth consecutive year the county's budget has been under the New York State property tax cap limit.

Chris Jacobs announced he will sponsor legislation that will enable telecommunication providers to pre-emptively block phone numbers that are the source of unsolicited automated phone calls. Commonly known as "robocalls," these pre-recorded messages are rising "at an alarming rate," the senator's camp said, as scammers continue to use new technologies to evade "do not call" registries.

Congressman Brian Higgins announced federal funding totaling $6,939,646 for Federally Qualified Health Centers in Western New York.
