ALL ABOARD: Discovering Niagara's shuttle

The Discover Niagara Shuttle kicked off its fourth season last month, connecting riders to 17 destination sites along a 14-mile route from Niagara Falls to Fort Niagara. Overseen by the Niagara Falls National Heritage Area (NFNHA), the free hop-on, hop-off service has serviced over 105,000 riders from across the globe since its inception in 2016.

EPA: $9.3 million in supplemental funds to clean up & reuse brownfield sites in communities across US

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced $9.3 million in supplemental funding for 24 current successful brownfields revolving loan fund (RLF) grantees. The supplemental funds are going to communities that have demonstrated success in using their RLF to clean up and redevelop brownfield sites. The funds will be used to continue progress in reusing vacant and abandoned properties and turning them into community assets such as housing, recreation and open space, health facilities, social services and commerce opportunities.

Americans don't think they'll get arrested for driving high

Nearly 70% of Americans think it's unlikely a driver will get caught by police for driving while high on marijuana, according to a new AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety survey. An alarming finding shows an estimated 14.8 million drivers report getting behind the wheel within one hour after using marijuana in the past 30 days. The impairing effects of marijuana are usually experienced within the first one to four hours after using the drug. And marijuana users who drive high are up to twice as likely to be involved in a crash.

Rear seat occupants who fail to buckle up are three times more likely to be killed, according to AAA New York State. In 2017, 34 unbelted rear seat occupants ages 16-plus were killed and 2,600 were injured. This accounts for one injury every three hours across New York state.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Monday announced the New York State Thruway Authority Board of Directors approved the selection of the design-build team that will complete the installation of cashless tolling on the Thruway systemwide by the end of 2020. The $355.3 million investment will transform the Thruway system for the approximately 267 million motorists who travel the superhighway each year.
