Meet local artists behind 10 new murals in Niagara Falls

The Niagara Falls National Heritage Area, with financial support from the New York State Health Foundation, is embarking on a multiphase heritage arts mural project and walking trail that will merge public art, local history and public health. Through August and September of this year, 10 artists from Niagara Falls and Buffalo will paint 10 new murals on Main Street and Depot Avenue in the north end neighborhood. The project unites artists with the Highland Community in a collaborative process to transform public spaces and inspire local citizens.
'A Quiet Place II' to cross Grand Island bridge

The New York State Thruway Authority announced the northbound South Grand Island Bridge will be closed to all traffic from midnight until 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25. All traffic traveling northbound on the Niagara Thruway (I-190) entering Grand Island will be diverted to a single lane on the southbound South Grand Island Bridge during the scheduled closure.

The New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (NYS OASAS) announced the availability of up to $5 million in funding for OASAS-certified outpatient treatment programs. Up to 50 awards of $100,000 each will be made to programs to assist them in expanding services, with the goal of improving immediate access to medication-assisted treatment (MAT).

Gates officially close on record-breaking 180th Erie County Fair

The all-time attendance record for the Erie County Fair was shattered as the "Best 12 Days of Summer" in Western New York concluded Sunday night. Final 2019 attendance is 1,238,456. This number represents a 3.3% increase from 2018 and makes 2019's number the highest attended County Fair in the history of the Erie County Agricultural Society. The previous all-time record was achieved in 2014 (1,220,101).

The troupe told a story of creation through a dazzling mix of floating inflatables, videos, lights and music. Seneca Gaming Corp. officials invited the media to tour the hotel side of Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino on Thursday. They officially unveiled a $40 million renovation of the Seneca Niagara Event Center, hotel front entrance and mezzanine, and The Lobby Bar. Outside, the grounds have new landscaping and statues, additional lanes of traffic, new parking lots, and a brand-new staging area for outdoor concerts.
