The average Town of Wheatfield homeowner, with a house assessed at $125,000, will receive an additional $9.93 on their taxes this year, according to Budget Officer Edward Mongold. While the budget has not been put in front of the residents, the 2020 tentative budget is complete and can be accessed at Town Hall. A public hearing for the budget has been scheduled at 6:45 p.m., Nov. 4.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Downriver Post 7487 welcomed a handful of recuperating D.C.-area soldiers to Lewiston on Sunday. The men were taken out on three charter boats to fish for bass and lake trout along the river. They then returned to Water Street for lunch at Lower Niagara Moose Lodge No. 584.

LaFlair worked alongside the Lower Niagara Community Survivors group in raising funds for others - for people she didn't know and had never met, who were battling the disease and in need of assistance.

In 1939, the Niagara Frontier Boat Racing Association was founded by a few young men, "boat bugs," who'd been informally racing along the Niagara River for years. They decided they should organize into a boat racing organization and created the NFBRA. The sport quickly won popularity and drew thousands of spectators.
