The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo is now accepting letters of intent for its 2020 competitive grant process through 4 p.m. Feb. 3. Interested organizations should read the detailed guidelines/additional information before submitting a letter of intent. Local businesses, organizations and schools are invited to participate in Hospice Buffalo's 34th annual Hospice Spring Bouquet Sale for the pre-sale phase held in January and February. Participants simply assign a coordinator from their organization to take their employees' bouquet orders. Bouquets will be delivered right to one's door for distribution.

U.S. Term Limits (USTL), a leader in the nonpartisan national movement to limit terms for elected officials, praised 2020 U.S. House candidate for New York (District 27), Robert Ortt, for signing the pledge for an amendment to term limit Congress. Previously, candidates Beth Parlato and Chris Jacobs also signed the pledge. The primary election is scheduled for June 23.

The American Red Cross currently has a critical need for blood donors of all blood types - especially type O - and platelet donors to make an appointment now to give and help replenish the blood supply after the holiday weeks. Right now, the Red Cross has less than a three-day supply of type O blood. To help tackle the critical need, the Red Cross and NFL are working together to offer one lucky winner a trip to Super Bowl LIV in Miami.

Sen. Chris Jacobs is calling on the leadership of the State Senate to immediately repeal the so-called "Criminal Justice Reforms" on the first day of legislative session, this Wednesday, Jan. 8. Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Monday unveiled the 29th proposal of his 2020 State of the State: a $300 million plan to reimagine the Erie Canal by creating recreational activities on the Canal to boost tourism, mitigating flooding, enhancing irrigation and recreational fishing and restoring wetlands. Cuomo is recommending the New York Power Authority board, which now oversees the Canal Corp. as a subsidiary, approve the $300 million investment over the next five years at the board's January meeting.

The New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports today announced the availability of up to $900,000 in funding for prevention providers to expand the "Triple P" "Positive Parenting Program," an evidence-based practice shown to reduce risky behaviors among youth. Up to nine awards of a maximum of $100,000 each will be issued through a request for applications process overseen by OASAS. Funding for this initiative is being provided through the federal State Opioid Response Grant.
