The National Federation for Just Communities of WNY presented an award to the Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Heritage Center, honoring the museum for its work on behalf of others. The Heritage Center was given the "Organization" award alongside 19 other awards that honored everything from youth to sports and public relations.

The Buffalo Sabres Green Team today announced it will hold a sports equipment drive at KeyBank Center starting Monday, March 9, when the Sabres take on the Washington Capitals. The drive will run until Sunday, March 15, and all equipment donated will benefit Victory Sports.

Spring is approaching in Western New York but there are still a number of activities scheduled in Erie County Parks in the upcoming late-winter weeks. The Department of Parks, Recreation and Forestry announced three programs designed to be recreational and informative: "Signs of Change" at Chestnut Ridge, "Winter Tree ID" at Emery Park, and "Hemlock Woolly Adelgid Survey and Detection Training" at Emery Park.

Calspan Corp. was awarded a five-year contract with the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School at Edwards Air Force Base, California. About 55 parish volunteers, clergy and Catholic Charities' staff attended a volunteer training workshop Saturday to help kick off Appeal 2020 for Catholic Charities in Niagara County. The event was held at Immaculate Conception Church in Ransomville in preparation for the annual campaign, which carries a goal of $10 million.

The Lewiston Choraleers will present an Easter program at four area churches March 28-29 and April 4-5. The program will feature a cantata titled "Once Upon a Tree" by Pepper Choplin. Hundreds of teens from across New York, Pennsylvania, and Southern Ontario gathered this past weekend in downtown Buffalo at the Buffalo Grand Hotel for the second annual Awaken Youth Conference. Produced by Western New York's Kingdom Bound Ministries, the conference featured renowned worship collective North Point Worship along with national youth communicator Reggie Dabbs, as well as respected regional speakers from the U.S. and Canada such as Christopher Hopper and Mike Gordon.

On Tuesday night at North Tonawanda's Common Council Meeting, Mayor Arthur Pappas commented on the lack of communication between officials in the City of North Tonawanda and the City of Tonawanda, in regard to the upcoming Canal Fest, an annual summer festival featuring rides, games and fireworks on the border of the two cities overlooking the Erie Canal.

The Niagara County Legislature presented a check for $75,000 at its meeting Tuesday night to the Lockport Locks Heritage District in support of the Lock Tenders tribute monument.
