Ceretto votes on first budget bill

Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-C-I-Lewiston, began the process of finalizing the New York state budget Wednesday by voting on the first budget bill. Ceretto noted that, throughout budget negotiations, he is still fighting to restore education funding that was cut in 2011.

Poor coordination of health benefits for veterans by the state Department of Health and local social services departments resulted in many veterans being placed in the state's Medicaid program rather than federal programs, according to an audit released Wednesday by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.

Ceretto sees progress in expansion of aquarium and outdoor recreation in Niagara Falls

Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-C-I-Lewiston, said he views the recent news of the expansion of the Aquarium of Niagara and recreational activities along the waterfront as a sign of the progress Niagara Falls has made in the three years since he took office. When completed, he said these expansions will provide more tourist attractions to keep visitors in the city longer, providing a boost to the various hospitality-related businesses in the city.

The projects are being supported by state investments through the "Buffalo Billion," the Power Proceeds Allocation Board and a $40 million economic development competition for Niagara Falls tourism.
