Zonta Club awards 2025 Yellow Rose Awards

On March 7, the Zonta Club of Grand Island awarded five women who live or work on Grand Island with the Yellow Rose Award. The women who were honored with the award were Amy Boutet, Cheryl Chamberlain, Jamie Mancuso-Dulak, Debra Harrison and Julia Hay. The ceremony was held at the Grand Island Welcome Center.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced $20 million will be made available for a new Municipal Parks and Recreation (MPR) Grant program to fund the development and improvement of municipal parks and recreation sites statewide for the public to enjoy. Funding for this program is provided by the Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act.

Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced an 18-year-old male from Buffalo was sentenced yesterday afternoon before Buffalo City Court Judge Tiffany R. Perry to a one-year conditional discharge. As conditions of his sentence, the defendant must complete 60 hours of community service and continue with counseling.

Live 'Butterfly Experience' coming to Buffalo & Erie County Botanical Gardens this summer

The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens announced its new "Butterfly Experience" will open this summer, from June 7 to Aug. 3. Hundreds of live butterflies will take flight in their newly renovated tropical orchard. The live butterfly exhibit will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
