On Wednesday, Congressman Brian Higgins and Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz visited Stack Burger in Lackawanna to highlight efforts to boost small businesses in Erie County through the microenterprise loan/grant program. The initiative provides small businesses with five employees or fewer with loan/grant funding of up to $35,000 thanks to resources made available through the federal CARES Act.

ECDOH to offer monkeypox vaccines through 'Vax Visit' program

Starting Nov. 1, the Erie County Department of Health is offering free and confidential monkeypox vaccines to eligible Erie County residents at their homes or any location in Erie County through its "Vax Visit" program. This is part of ECDOH's monkeypox vaccine outreach campaign, which began in July in coordination with Evergreen Health, MOCHA Buffalo, the Pride Center of WNY, Upstate NY Black and Latino Pride, and GLYS WNY.

Bud Long was born in Tonawanda and spent most of his childhood and youth living on a five-acre farm on Grand Island. When he graduated from Tonawanda High School, his father asked him if he was going to work on the family farm, but he had other ideas.

Holiday Happenings, held at the Grand Island Golden Age Center, featured a number of vendors and crafters, who sold such things as notecards, book pillows, jams and jellies, winter squash, soaps, homemade candies, and handmade blankets. In addition, people could buy lunch, prepared by the center's cook, or they could buy baked goods, prepared by members of the Golden Age Center.

Higgins: $250,000 in federal funding for Plymouth Crossroads

Congressman Brian Higgins announced a federal grant totaling $250,000 awarded to Plymouth Crossroads. Funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and awarded through the Administration for Children and Family Services, Family and Youth Bureau, the grant will provide support services and resources for runaway and homeless youth in Western New York.
